How Eyebrow Hair Transplant is Different from Other Hair Transplants

It is very common to see men undergo surgery for male pattern baldness. Hair transplant clinics avertize about surgical techniques to cure for baldness even in women. But a lesser known use of hair transplant surgery is for eyebrow hair transplants. This procedure is very different from other hair transplant surgeries.
Eyebrow hair is an integral part of the human face and if it falls out, it has to be replaced. Men are expected to have receding hairlines and balding symptoms on theirĀ heads. Even women with thinning hair are not uncommon. Yet the sight of a person without eyebrows is very disturbing. These are just expected to be there.
Some people have eyebrow hair transplants because these have fallen out gradually. Some have thyroid problems or other such diseases which affect their hair. A type of alopecia exists that causes eyebrow loss. Excessive plucking of the hair is another problem. There are other reasons of hair loss like burns, tattoos, infections etc. Each of these situations demands a slightly different approach, which is why it is best to get as much info as possible from established information centers such as the Hair Loss Learning Center.
Surgery for the eyebrows is different from other surgeries because eyebrow hair is quite different from scalp hair. Eyebrows have a distinct pattern of growth – each section of the eyebrow points in separate directions. The hair grows out at a sharp angle and then falls flat downwards, ino the face. On the other hand, Scalp hair has a gentler angle wrt to the skin and grows outwards.
Scalp hair grows in larger follicular units as compared to eyebrow hair. They grow in groups of one to four hairs. However, eyebrows always grow individually. This has to be taken into account during eyebrow hair transplant.
During eyebrow replacement surgeries, doctors have to make sure that they put in the hairs so that the hairs point upwards in the natural hair direction. They use very fine needles for this purpose. They must also ensure that the hair lies flat. Because there are individual hairs in the eyebrows, single units of hair should be planted – individually. Hair is taken from the scalp and the follicular units are divided into individual hair grafts. Then these grafts have to be inserted in the site. This is a very tricky part because getting the correct angle is very tough. The job is made even tougher if the hair is curly.
A small problem is that eyebrow hair will grow because it actually is scalp hair. Thus it will need to be trimmed occasionally.
